Annemarie Garrett was a college freshman when she fell in love with a much older man. When she became pregnant, he denied that he was the father and revealed that he was married with two children. After completing college, the single mother found a job and moved to his home town. She was hoping that he would be interested in knowing his son. He wasn't, but his wealthy rancher parents loved the boy and insisted that they be given a small portion of the ranch. Annemarie is working as an accountant and trying to fix up the dilapidated ranch for her son when she finds herself needing an electrician. Gabriel Collins rewires house and soon finds himself attracted to the hard working mother and the cute son who needs a father. I loved this story because, for once, the romance develops slowly and makes you feel that their marriage will be one that endures. The plot is good, the writing is great, and I loved the characters. There were no billionaires or magic just a regular couple finding love. It kept my attention and I enjoyed the characters. The reason I gave it a 3 rather than a 4 is that it was a little slow; plus, the ex was too unrealistic that he wouldn’t let go. But I liked the descriptions of the ranch life and the H/h with the son were well developed. There were some tasteful sex scenes.
I loved this book. I won't go into details about the book because many reviewers here have already done that, and done it very well.
What I will say is that; I am so glad that Gabe had insisted on them taking it slow, which I fully appreciate. So many times in a romance novel the main characters meet, and then immediately end up jumping between the sheets, without really getting to know one another. So I found this to be very refreshing. By taking time to get to know each other better, it makes you feel that their marriage will be one that endures. And in this case, I think they'll live long happy lives together as a happily married couple.
I loved young Cody. He was so adorable and really made the story more enjoyable. You just knew Gabe, Annie, and Cody would make a great family. After all; They sort of hit it off from the start. It really helped that Cody adored Gabe, and Gabe adored Cody as much as he did his mother, Annie. IMO- they make the best family unit of all time.
My only critic is that I wish there had been a short epilogue at the end, in order to tie up a few things. Like did Tom's wife walk away? Or did Thomas take the reins of the ranch back from his son? Did any other woman step forward claiming they also had an affair with Tom? Did Tom ever go through with his threat to try to take his son away from Annie?
Even with those things left unsaid, this is a story you won't want to miss. It's so heart-warming, romantic, and you'll find yourself cheering this little family unit on.
This was a very good romantic story. It kept me interested all through the story, wondering what was going to happen next. Gabe was such a good man and Annamarie was such a match for him. They found each other without looking for someone and they both had been through a big heartbreak. Cody's dad was such a jerk, he made me sick. I was a little disappointed in Tom's dad, that he didn't do more to help Annamarie and Cody out. In fact, he really didn't do much and he let his son treat them like trash. All in all, this was a good book and I would highly recommend it to others.
I really liked this story. It was a warm romance of a young woman who made a mistake in believing in the wrong person and ending up with a special remembrance.
Annemarie, a very independent and intelligent woman, was trying to make a good life for her son Cody and herself by trying to keep up an old run down ranch. Her trust in men shattered by a hurtful past relationship. Can she ever learn to trust again? Can she care for anyone else again?
Gabe, a hard working man who had been hurt and has no trust in women anymore. Can he ever find someone to trust and love him for himself?
Will fate bring these two together and will they give in to the attraction they find for each other or will their past keep their feelings from letting go of the wall their hearts have put up
This is a heartwarming story that pulls you in and won't let you go.
